
Making Outdoor Heaters That Actually Last
Let’s be honest: outdoor bars and patios are absolute nightmares for heating equipment. Between the salt air, the humidity, and those weird temperature swings, most standard infrared lamps just give up. They burn out way too fast. When we sat down to build our latest infrared series, we stopped worrying about the “specs” for a second and just looked at why these things actually break. It usually comes down to two things: the seal and the surface.
The battle against condensation
Here is the problem: water and 600°C glass don’t get along. If a tiny, cold droplet hits a scorching quartz tube, the glass doesn’t just crack—it shatters. It’s called thermal shock, and it’s the fastest way to kill a heater. To stop that, we added a specialized anti-fog coating and a sealed housing. Basically, we’re managing the dew point so moisture never even gets a chance to settle on the emitter. It keeps the heat steady and, more importantly, keeps the tubes in one piece when the weather flips.
Staying dry where it matters
Most patio heaters don’t die because the heating element fails; they die because water sneaks into the electrical terminals. One bad rainstorm or a careless cleaning spray, and pop—you’ve tripped the breaker. We fixed this by using heavy-duty splash-proof gaskets and reinforcing the seals where the wires enter the unit. It’s a simple fix, but it means you aren’t scrambling to reset your power box every time it drizzles.
A bit of honesty
Now, there’s a trade-off. Because we’ve sealed everything up so tightly, the units are a bit bulkier than the cheap ones you see at big-box stores. Since they’re sealed, heat can build up inside the chassis faster than it would in an open-air design. Just make sure your mounting bracket leaves a little breathing room. As long as there’s some airflow, you’re golden. We built these to take a beating in high-traffic spots. If you follow the voltage specs and keep the vents clear, these will outlast your standard residential heaters by a long shot.
